Is the process safe?

Yes. All of the components in our tanning solution have been approved by the FDA and have been used in food and/or cosmetics for several decades. However if you have ever had any adverse effects with prior use of self-tanning products or moisturisers, you may experience similar effects with our tanning solution.

How does it work?

Sunless tanning products work by creating a response with the top layer of skin. Dihydroxyacetone or DHA sugars react naturally with the protein found in skin to create that tan, golden colour that tanners are seeking. MagicTan uses a DHA self-tanner and bronzer to give you the streak-free golden tan you want and we've also added aloe and moisturisers to keep your skin healthy and golden brown. So you can not only look great, but feel great too.

How is the tanning solution applied to the skin?

The MagicTan booth is a full-body DHA tanning process that utilizes a new misting technology. This is a revolutionary process that allows the booth to apply a uniform amount of tanning solution to all parts of the body. When the special MagicTan solution passes through the booth's nozzles, the particles of solution are polarized making it evenly cover all surfaces of the skin.

Does it turn the skin orange?

No. Previously, self-tanners have given many individuals an unnatural glow and have caused streaking. Most of these undesirable results were caused by improper or ineffective application techniques.

Applying cremes and lotions by hand usually results in excessive amounts being absorbed in the skin. It is these excessive amounts applied in a single application that can give an orange glow to the skin. Unnatural dark spots may also appear in dry or thick skinned areas such as elbows, knees and knuckles as these areas tend to absorb more of the crème. Hand held spray-on applicators tend to run and cause streaking.

The good news is that the new misting technology used to apply the MagicTan tanning solution assures that all areas of the body get a uniform coating of the solution in the exact quantity required to produce a golden brown tan.

What about allergic reactions components used in the tanning solution?

All of the components in the MagicTan tanning solution have been approved for use on the skin and are considered safe. If you have any serious allergies it is always wise to ask our friendly staff who have a complete list of ingredients that they can show you.

What about people with fair skin that haven't been able to tan before?

The MagicTan tanning booth was designed specifically for individuals who are unable or do not want to tan conventionally.

top

Will it feel sticky like other forms of UV-free tanning?

No, it will not leave you feeling sticky. Once you leave the MagicTan tanning booth and completely dry off, your skin will feel soft and pliable because of the moisturising components in the solution.

What should be worn in the tanning booth?

Many people do not wear anything as the room is completely private, and therefore tanning in the nude is perfectly acceptable. This will also ensure that all areas are exposed to the tanning solution for an all over tan. If a bathing suit, underwear or anything else is worn it may be stained. The bronzer we use for initial colour is water-soluble and should wash out of any clothing, however the DHA applications may cause stains on any clothing worn inside the booth.

Does my hair need to be covered during the session?

No. Many consumers wear disposable shower caps which are provided for your convenience. This is to keep the solution from getting into your hair, however many consumers tan without covering their hair as the solution will not penetrate the hair follicles.

Are better results achieved by shaving my legs before the session?

Proper exfoliation prior to using any type of self-tanner is the key to acquiring a tan that will provide the most natural fade. Shaving is a major form of exfoliation that is best done prior to the tanning session. This combined with a good skin care regimen will ensure your tan will last longer and fade more evenly. Obviously since MagicTan lasts approximately one week, you will need to shave some time in between. Proper preparation of the skin prior to tanning as well as after the session will enable you to achieve the best results.

Will my skin feel wet when getting out of the booth?

The mist applied in the MagicTan tanning booth is very fine and much like the mist floating in the air on a foggy day. By the time you step out of the booth most of the mist will have dried, but there may still be a few moist areas. You may see small droplets clinging to the body hair on arms or legs, however this remaining moisture can be removed quite easily by towelling dry. There's no need to worry about wiping off the solution with the towel as towelling does not streak the tan, and any solution that comes off on the towel was excess and will not affect the tan.

What happens if the mist gets into my eyes?

We suggest keeping the eyes closed during the misting process. Due to the moisturizing components in the mist, eyes may feel itchy or scratchy, but there is nothing in the mist that is harmful to eyes.

top

Is it safe to breathe normally during the session?

We recommend that you do hold your breath during the actual misting process, which lasts approximately 20 seconds. We make this recommendation because most individuals would prefer not to breathe in the mist even though it does not contain any harmful ingredients. If there is a history of asthma or other respiratory illnesses we do not recommend tanning in the MagicTan tanning booth until consulting with a doctor.

top

How long after the tanning session until I can put my clothes back on?

Once you have towel dried there is little chance of the bronzer or DHA getting on your clothes. However if you do pursue any strenuous or physical activity after your MagicTan tanning session, perspiration may cause some of the bronzer to transfer to your clothing. Since the bronzer is completely water-soluble, it will wash out.

top

How soon after the tanning session can I use the shower?

We recommend that you wait at least a eight hours after tanning to give the DHA enough time to fully set. If you shower earlier, you may diminish the intensity of the tan. Once the eight hours has passed, when you shower the initial tan created by the water-soluble bronzer will wash off, but the DHA will remain and create a long term tan.

top

Will I get a better tan if I tan twice in the same day?

Yes, tanning twice in the same day will create a darker tan, but we do not recommend back to back sessions. Tanning back to back does not give the DHA a chance to set between tans, and increases the chance that your tan may have an orange glow. Waiting 12 to 24 hours between tans will eliminate this potential problem.

Why does my tan look different from last time?

The condition of your skin varies with season, time of the month, foods you eat, weather etc. As the skin is a living thing, it reacts to a lot of factors, which is why the tan might vary. Use MagicTan prep gel to avoid this happening and make your tan 30% darker.

top

Why does my tan wear off faster on my hands and feet?

This is because your hands and feet are more exposed to the elements or are subject to more rubbing in your shoes.

top

Why do I have brown patches on my knuckles and elbows?

As these areas have thick layers of skin, they have a tendency to absorb more of the solution. If this occurs, take some exfoliator, or a wet soapy washer, and very gently rub off the excess. Be careful not to rub too hard, so you don't finish with a white patch.
